MillTown Soap Company
Genuine smells that fill the soul.
What motivates your company?
I love all things handmade! I’ve always been the person that would rather try to make something before I go out and buy it. Even as a child, I loved handmade soap. I love researching ingredients and their individual skin benefits and incorporating them into truly nurturing bath products.
Tell us about your location
I run my company out of my home. I am a stay-at-home mom to three small kids and having the ability to create from home has been a huge blessing!
Tell us a bit about your customers
It’s been pretty amazing to see and hear of so many people loving my soap. It still feels pretty surreal that other people love using my soaps as much as I love making them. I think people are really beginning to truly appreciate the value of local and ‘handmade’ again and it’s really refreshing.
Share the history of your company
I began MillTown Soap Company two years ago and decided to start out wholesaling my products to local and surrounding stores. I currently have twenty-two retailers that carry my products and I have recently launched my retail website.
How are you involved with your customers and community?
I primarily wholesale to retailers, but being from a small town I also get the privilege to interact with my customers directly. I have had the opportunity to make custom orders for individuals as well as several local organizations that are great about supporting small businesses.
Tell us about your employees
Our employees are kind, smart, hardworking, invested in our success, loyal, and diverse! The energy and excitement we all feel pushing toward our common goal – the camaraderie and the spirit of family is palpable at Byrd.
What makes you excited to work here?
I am currently a one-man show!
What do you like about your community and location?
I get to CREATE all day, everyday while still having the flexibility to work around my kids’ growing schedules.
How do you embody Authentic Georgia?
We have a fantastic community that truly values small businesses and supports it well. Thomaston is a small town that’s a little off of the grid, but we truly have some of the neatest shops around.
What makes Georgia so special and unique?
Georgia is genuine. We are southern and soulful. I think as Georgians we truly take pride in what we do and sincerely root for one another.
